The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) has announced that Debra Chew will join the agency as Director of the Office for Equal Opportunities and Equity (OEOF) on September 28.
The OEOF was created in January to heighten the importance of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), alternative dispute resolution and anti-harassment functions within the FHFA and reaffirm the commitment of the FHFA in favor of a workplace free from harassment and discrimination.
Chew, a 25-year veteran EEO, diversity and civil rights practitioner, joins the FHFA from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), where she served as Director of the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion since 2012. Prior to NIH, Chew held similar equality-focused leadership roles with the Internal Revenue Service and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). While at the FDA, Chew received the Award for Excellence in Health and Human Services Management, the department’s highest award for leadership.
She is a licensed lawyer who has practiced in the areas of employment discrimination and medical malpractice defense for both government and private entities.
